Member Challenge

Each QA quilt show has a theme, which becomes the basis for a challenge to our members to create a small quilt that defines or embodies the theme to the quiltmaker.

                                       2024 Theme:

As Seen from the James Webb Space Telescope: Fact or Fiction

The sky is the limit with this challenge! Or is it? Inspired by the amazing images of the universe seen through the James Webb Space Telescope, we invite you to take a look through your personal space telescope and share what you see.

Perhaps you see something factual—stars, the rings of Saturn, a comet. Perhaps you see something fictional—a miniature Disneyland on the dwarf planet Pluto. We encourage you to use this challenge to share something of our galaxy that catches your fancy. It can be literal or fanciful; traditional or innovative. It must be an original design but may be based on traditional blocks.

Your challenge quilt should measure no more than 120” all the way around (perimeter). It can be any shape as long as all the sides add up to no more than 120”. You may use any technique (pieced, appliquéd, embellished, collage, or whatever you dream up).

If you would like to see some of the images from the James Webb Telescope, go to: nasa.gov/webbfirstimages or search James Webb images for other sites.
